Our APPROACH
We are cat lovers and this is our extended cat family. The cat café has been set up with the best interests of our feline friends.
We are home to a family of four indoor cats who are siblings and get on well together and with people. We have thoroughly thought out and planned how our cat cafe works so that it is a safe and happy environment for them.
After much consideration, we have decided that we will not be fostering cats at the café, as we feel it’s not in the best interests of resident cats or cats waiting to be homed. Rescue cats have often been traumatised and such an environment would not work for them. However, we are working to support smaller organisations and charities that need help with fostering and homing.
We are giving regular donations to ANDJEO; a Bosnian based voluntary organisation that rescue abandoned or abused cats and dogs from the streets, for their veterinary costs, foster them (one foster volunteer lives in the Stroud district) while finding forever, loving homes.
We are also working with several other local organisations to help home cats and dogs. (see our social media pages for more information).
How it works
To help us provide a safe and happy environment for our kitties, we ask that you pre book a table to visit us. There is a charge of £5 per person that is for a 80 minute stay, this is to cover costs for insurance, veterinary bills, food and care and helps us pay our staff a fair, hourly rate. (£4 to book a table for children aged under 16 , who must be accompanied by an adult).
We ask you that you please don’t pick up the cats, feed that cats or crowd around them when you visit, and please do not use flash photography. Sadly, we can’t allow children under the age of 14 into the café.
Our Cafe
El Gato’s cat café has been furnished with a cosy, retro, Mediterranean feel and with areas for our kitties to hide, explore and snooze while you relax.
We offer barista coffee, traditional and herbal teas, cold drinks, freshly made vegetarian and vegan sandwiches that are made to order, cakes, and a children’s lunch deal.
We also offer exclusive, high, afternoon tea. This consists of finely cut finger sandwiches, specially selected cakes, scones, jam and clotted cream, served with a pot of tea, barista coffee (with refills), or a glass of virgin prosecco. This is served for two people on our finest, vintage china, and is an ideal gift or treat for someone special.
